Today is your opportunity to celebrate National Running Day!

National Running Day 2015
Woohoo! Today is National Running Day! This may be one of my favorite non-traditional holidays of the year! Share your love for the run today! Run by yourself in the woods, grab a friend or run with the group. Proclaim your love for running with your friends and share the joy that it brings you. Now how can you resist celebrating!
My relationship with running. National Running Day Interview.
And now to inspire you here is a fun questionnaire from Jonesin’ For a Run to tell you all about my amazing relationship with running! If you’d like to join in the celebration we’d love to have you share your own answers to this questionnaire on your blog or social media.
- Why do you run? I run for pure enjoyment! Right now my focus has been on getting back to running to enjoy it and to feel free. I have been so focused on Boston qualifying times and just getting faster that I almost lost this reason for a little while. But now, I’m back. I am trying to squeeze in a run whenever I can, it can be a few easy miles on the treadmill, a long run on the road past some of my favorite farms or a group run with my best running friends out on the trails where I fell in love with running.
- How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day? I plan to get out and run tomorrow on a favorite trail with some of my favorite friends. That’s the hope at least. We’ll have to wait and see what the day holds!
- How many miles have you run so far this year? I have to admit I am not so good at keeping track. Most of my runs are recorded in time and quality hours on my feet. I do want to get better at keeping track though!
- What big events do you have on the race calendar so far this year? So far, it’s shaping up to be a great season of running (which includes a lot of running during triathlons!). I am currently signed up to race the Timberman Ironman 70.3 in NH, the Lobsterman Olympic Distance Triathlon in Maine, and the Maine Half Marathon as a part of an awesome blogging retreat! I am ready to add more races to my calendar and have a few ideas rolling around . . . perhaps my 9th Reach the Beach Relay? maybe the Philadelphia Marathon . . . we’ll see!
- Before I leave for a run you must have: When I go out for a run I must be decked out head to toe in Skirt Sports gear of course, with my Crazy Compression socks (the more color the better), my Mizuno Running Shoes or Hoka One One’s, Skratch Labs Fruit Drops Energy Chews, perhaps some beef jerky (depending on distance) and whatever fueling goodies I can stuff in my pockets.
- Do you have one favorite app to track your runs? I use my TomTom Multisport Cardio Watch and I often use MapMyRun.
- Who is your favorite running partner? If the stars align and schedules permit I will always run with my best running girls, Bridget, Joanna, Jenny, and Meghan!
- What races have you ran so far this year? So far this year of racing has been quiet due to back troubles (which are thankfully gone!). I have raced one race, the Dirty 5K on Mother’s Day.
- If you had to give someone one piece of advice about running what would it be? There is so much advice to be given yet I always come back to these words of wisdom . . . run for you, trust your training, and always be ready for new adventures!
- Describe your relationship with running in one word: Endorphins.
Now what are you waiting for. Get out there and go for a run and celebrate National Running Day!
Why did you start running? How inspires you to run? Where was your favorite run and why?
One last quick thing . . .

I love learning a little more about why you run! I’m so happy that your back is better and you’re finally able to get back to something that is so important to you.
I started running about 25 years ago simply because I needed a new way to stay fit. Who knew it would become a way of life?

I started running track and cross country in high school. I’ve always loved to exercise 🙂
I’m having fun learning about everyone and why they run. I didn’t even know it was National Running Day and wrote about blogging.. nice… I’m a dork. I started running after I gave birth to my twins. I had a 1.5 year old and newborn twins… that sh*t will make you the laziest person run. I never stopped, I just kept going.
A running blogger who doesn’t keep track of her miles? (gasp) 🙂
I started running to lose weight and fell in love with it!

I always love to hear someone say they run for the pure enjoyment of it—as it should be, in my opinion! I too am hitting the trails today, this time with a friend who moved and is back for a visit!

That was fun to read more about you! You have a great line up for the summer. Love to hear you say you run for enjoyment. I’ve found when I get too caught up in racing or pacing I lose that. Happy running day :0

Yay for running! Even though I had to stop running for now, my short few month stint with it this year taught me so much!
I have been a recreational runner for about 27 years now. Endorphins… yup, I agree!

Happy National Running Day! I started running to get fit after college, but now I run for so many reasons – because I love it, because I feel free, because it keeps me strong – I don’t know if I can pick one favorite run! I love running while I’m traveling because it’s a great way to explore!

I ran cross country in high school to stay in shape for track. It wasn’t until I was older that I really started actually enjoying running longer distances. I just feel a lot of pride when I accomplish those long runs, makes me feel so good about myself 🙂

I started running with a couch to 5K plan in Prevention magazine in high school. I ran a local 5K and never looked back! My true motivation at that time was weight loss, but now that is just one facet of running for me.

You should always run for you, and never compare your abilities to those of others.

I love reading these interviews! It’s so great learning more about my fellow running bloggers.
My favorite run was probably in the Bahamas – I went out early and spent some time by myself on the beaches. It was quiet and beautiful and so peaceful.

I don’t track miles either when I’m not training for something, as I don’t like to be hooked up to tech every time I run! Sometimes I just want to get out the door as fast as I can!
Happy National Running Day!
You have such fun races lined up this summer!
I started running with my parents at a young age and then right cross country and track in high school and college. Started running marathons after college.
Isn’t running with girlfriends the best?
I hope you had a wonderful day!
I voted for ya! 🙂 Great picture.
I always enjoy reading surveys like that and learning about other peoples running lives. Sounds like you have a lot of great races lined up for 2015. Good luck!

I started running back in the day to lose weight, but then it became an unhealthy obsession. I have taken a long break from running, but I am wanting to start back slow with a goal to run a half marathon.
