Are you an aspiring mountain runner, hill runner or just want to get faster?
Over the past couple of years I have added mountain running into my racing repertoire (although last year was kind of ugly with my nagging peroneal tendonitis). I have always been a hill repeat junkee. I know it sounds nuts but I always like hard hill repeats workouts and a good muscle trashing mountain run where your heart feels like it will explode out of your chest and your lungs feel on fire (why I love hills). One of my favorite summer races is the Loon Mountain race which I hope to conquer again this summer however first up is the Mt. Washington Road Race at the end of June which means I had better be ready attack the hill (only one hill) mountain with strength of mind, body and spirit and the lungs of an Olympian (I wish!). In order to prepare I have been running up mini-mountains and doing hill repeats. Here are some workouts that you can incorporate into your training if you want to be a mountain runner or simply stronger on the hills and some tips about the benefits of hill running.

Pink to put a little spring in your step!
The earth is turning green around me as the rains come and quench the earth. I am energized by the colors of the world around me ass New Hampshire comes back to life after the long frozen winter. This week on my run it literally rained pink. How could this not make you smile? I truly live a sweet life!
In the words of Maya Angelou . . .

I love some good hill repeats. “Hills are our friends!” My high school coach would always say that. Good luck on Mt Washington! I made the lottery one year but left for a camp job in Wisconsin and had to miss it! :-/

Those sunglasses are super cute! and that PB looks amazing. I love chocolate PB 🙂 I also do enjoy running hills – mainly hill sprints. So tough but such a good workout.

Love the energy of this post! That’s one of my all time favorite Maya A quotes. I’m so proud as a runner! I’m learning to love the hills and no longer see them as a necessary evil 🙂
Have a great weekend!

I like training on hills because I hope to run them in races without dreading them. This week, I made Skinny Chocolate Peanut Butter No Bake Cookies from Sally’s Baking Addiction. They were good!

My friends say I either get faster or stay at the same pace going up hills, so I want to work on running trails and just increasing stamina at a challenging pace.
