Surprise! I will be racing another #marathon on Friday at 24 Hours Around the Lake!

Surprise! I’m going for it again. Yes, you guessed it, a Boston Qualifying time for the Boston Marathon!  Only a few friends and family members have been in on this secret. I wanted to train for the marathon this time without putting too much pressure on myself. At the Vermont City Marathon I found myself making rookie marathoner/athlete mistakes that cost me a faster finishing time which I know I have the ability to do. Since the race I have done a lot of reflecting, revisiting goals, and running and racing for fun and I have been challenging myself because I know I am strong enough.

No regrets this time!

What? The Somerville Road Runners 24 Hours Around the Lake offers four events – 24 hour ultra, 12 hour ultra, 24 hour relay and marathon. The flat race course is run on sidewalks and paths around scenic Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, MA. The 24-Hour Race raises funds each year for Wakefield Educational Foundation and Children’s Hospital Boston.

Chasing a dream

I will be joining the field of runners in the marathon option. This race is B.A.A. certified so we’ll just wait and see what happens this time when I take on the marathon. I have been secretly training for this race since the VT City Marathon where I P.R.’d but was not happy with my race performance. This time I want to go out there and run the race for me, stick to my plan, trust my training and have fun. Perhaps with the added bonus of finishing the race with a Boston Qualifier of 3:40 or better . My current P.R. for the marathon is 3:45.28. this race will be unique as there will also be racers completing either the 12 hour or 24 hour ultra events all starting at the same time. Plus the race starts at 7 p.m. so it should be cool which might help with my excessive sweating/dehydration issues during the heat of the day. Plus I always seem to be faster at night perhaps due to the fear of being chased by wildlife (although this time I guess the wildlife will mostly consist of other runners, wildlife in their own way, ha!) This race will also have a totally different feel since there are only 175 marathon entrants.

I am looking forward to taking on this challenge and racing for me this time!

Where? Wakefield, MA

When? July 27-28, 2012, Start-Time 7:00 p.m. (aka bring your headlamp!)

Happy Running!

    1. Thanks Amy! I am super excited. I had a great training run today and am feeling focused, energized and ready. Now, the key is to keep my head in the game at the race and to keep my pace under control. I know I can accomplish this goal! 😉

    1. Thanks Paulette! I am looking forward to totally changing it up with a completely different race experience. Plus I LOVE running at night! I’ll let you know how it goes!
