Hello friends! It’s been awhile since I’ve shared anything here on the blog. I’m still running but life’s been a bit busy. We moved this past fall and the kids have been at a new school. So far the year has been fantastic and we haven’t looked back. The kids are thriving in their new environment which is exactly what we had hoped for. I have been focused on running but also my new addiction, Crossfit. The gym where I workout, the River Valley Club, has a great Crossfit gym with a plethora of classes to choose from to fit almost any schedule. Crossfit is a new challenge which I am loving and I am loving all of the strength gains.
Along with Crossfit I have also made some dietary changes. We have been on a keto kick (Ketogenic Diet) at home which means making some dietary changes. We have cut out many carbohydrates. Fats become the body’s primary source of metabolic energy, ketones accumulate in the brain. This diet was created to treat epilepsy but has been found to cause weight loss. Since we modified our diet I have dropped some weight that was additional fat weight. I am not overly strict about this diet because I don’t need to lose a ton of weight but have been pleased with the effects of modifying my diet in this way. Now I can show off my great new lean muscle mass acquired at Crossfit.
As far as running goes I actually took a little break from running so intensely. My body was in need of a change. However, now I need to get back to more focused running. I am running the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in June and need to get in shape for it! I plan to do some training with friends as this is a popular race and I have a lot of friends who are running. I plan to do some of the training on the road and some on my treadmill. Do you have any races that you are preparing for? I am excited to race a half as it is one of my absolute favorite distances.
The other cool thing that happened since I last wrote on the blog was that I learned how to surf in Costa Rica. I traveled to Costa Rica with Women’s Quest Adventure Retreat. I have always wanted to surf and fell instantly in love with waiting for the perfect wave to scoop you up on your board to give you a ride! What a perfect place to learn too with super knowledgeable instructors, warm water and plenty of waves. I also got to participate in a Skirt Sports photo shoot while I was there which was the coolest experience and definitely a dream of mine. Skirt Sports founder Nicole DeBoom was on the trip and had brought along the spring line of Skirt Sports. What better way to showcase the new spring gear than to have Real Women wearing it on the beaches of Costa Rica and even in the skies, ziplining through the Costa Rican Jungle.
Check back soon to see what I am up to next!
Happy running and adventuring!
