Rise. Run. Retreat. 2015
How do you hold onto the memories of moments that fill your heart up until it is about to burst?
I want to capture the inspiring energy of this past weekend at the Rise. Run. Retreat. in Wells, Maine. But how do you bottle it up?
This was the first time in a long time that I have been surrounded by so many strong women sharing a passion for the same thing. Each woman bringing her joy for the sport of running and her desire to inspire others to run farther, faster, and for their own goals. I haven’t felt this energy since my days as a rower at Colby and as a coach of Freshman women’s rowing at Bates and Middlebury College where individuals would meet together each day for a shared purpose. And each day hard work, enthusiasm, and laughter and tears would fill each one of us.
If I could choose one word to sum up this past weekend it would be powerful.
To be able to replicate this energy on a daily basis would be magical. Each of these women shares her message through her blog musings and social media postings as a way to inspire others but also as a way to empower themselves. Each one through running, triathlon and through the written word has discovered more about herself than she ever imagined.
I wish I could go back. But as with running we must move forward in the words of Dean Karnazes, “You must keep moving even if it is one foot forward at a time. One foot in front of each other. Just keep moving.”
Today I move forward. I am reinvigorated. I am strong. I will keep running and writing.
Thank you for reigniting my passion and for sharing your journey with me.
