Only One Hill–The Mount Washington Road Race 2014
I’ve been so focused on training for the Boston Marathon that I almost forgot that I had entered the lottery for the Mount Washington Road Race. This race or “run to the clouds” will take place on June 21st. This race is in it’s 54th year and boasts an incredibly steep 7.6 mile climb up the Mount Washington Auto Road to the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire.
I had applied to run this race before but hadn’t gotten in so this year I applied with a team in hopes of bettering my chances at entry. Last night I received the
scary awesome e-mail alerting me that I had gotten a spot to walk run up this amazing New Hampshire landmark. Yikes!
Hopefully by June 21st my body will have recovered well from the Boston Marathon and I will be ready to attack this hill with grit and determination. I mean it’s “Only One Hill,” right?!? I am thankful that I have been doing a ton of hill work during this training cycle so that as race day approaches I won’t be starting from square one. Running this race will either fuel my love for hill running even more (yup, I’m a crazy one!) or it will make me never want to run up anything ever again. No matter what happens I am up for the challenge and excited to watch some amazingly talented athletes attack this “hill” with strength and guts and determination . . . it will be awe-inspiring!
Have you ever competed in a race as nuts as this one? I’d love to hear about it!
