#LiftUpKids with Catie’s Closet this Holiday Season
This holiday season you can #LiftUp Kids with Catie’s Closet.
I was recently contacted by a representative from Catie’s Closet bout sharing their mission this holiday “to provide clothing and basic necessities to students, from Pre-K to 12th Grade, who currently live in poverty to improve school attendance. Often kids with only tattered clothes to wear suffer from low self-esteem and become the target of bullying.”
What is Catie’s Closet?
Catie’s Closet was founded by the family of Catie Bisson a 20 year old with a passion for the power of education and making education accessible to everyone. Catie’s Closet was started by Catie’s family after she passed away in 2011. Catie’s Closet is a non-profit Organization (501C3) that currently serves 12,000 students in 22 schools in Lowell, MA and Hudson and Nashua, NH. This non-proft builds “stores” or “walk-in closets” inside schools so kids have immediate access to what they need, free of charge. Catie’s Closet provides items such as warm winter coats, and boots and personal care necessities such as shampoo and deodorant to kids in need.
As a former first grade teacher in an area with lots of kids and need our school would have loved to have had a Catie’s Closet to provide these essential items to kids who needed them. This non-profit hits close to my heart as I often had students come to school in the middle of winter without coats or sweaters to keep them warm.

This looks like a really cool program. We give to a lot of organizations throughout the year too.

This sounds like an absolutely fabulous charity. We have a lot of kids in our school that live in poverty, so we participate in annual gift card drive that the school counselor then uses to make sure these kids have what they need. I love being able to give back to kids in my own community, otherwise I’d totally be donating to this organization.
