I’m running a trail marathon (plus a few extra miles) this weekend. What?!?!
Bear Brook Trail Marathon
Running has been off and on for me this summer due to having a hard time finding time to squeeze in runs, illness, triathlon training, and basically just busy life with the kiddos on summer vacation. So what better way to challenge myself than to jump into a trail marathon (which I hear is actually closer to a 50K due to trail damage) this weekend. Even though my running mileage has been low my swimming, biking and paddle boarding mileage has actually been high and has my body feeling strong and my legs feeling refreshed. I actually haven’t felt this good in a long time.
The goals for this weekend at the Bear Brook Trail Marathon are to run a consistent pace (with a possible pick-up/negative splits at the end????) and to run strong (#runlikeagirl) and to enjoy the gorgeous trails at Bear Brook State Park (although probably not the deer flies which sounds like they may be like a raging swarm of bees. Yikes!). I am going into this race with no expectations of a goal finish times as this is a new to me course (yes!) which means I will not be a slave to my watch for pace!
What makes this trail marathon race adventure even more awesome is that I get to head out for the run with some of my best girlfriends who are the most amazing people to run with! We haven’t had a race adventure like this in a long time and I cannot wait for the laughs and the stories that await at the finish line!
Have you ever raced a trail marathon? I’d love to hear about your adventure!
Oh and one more thing! Please help me “run” onto the cover of Runners World magazine. Please vote for me from now until August 26th and you could see me smiling at you when you open your mailbox! Click here to VOTE

A trail run sounds like it would be a good challenge and lots of fun.
Deer flies? Ok, not sure what that is but it does not sound fun.

Agreed – the bear flies are bad and drive me crazy! Hopefully they will bother other runners and not you girls 😉

Someone posted a picture of the deer flies stuck to tape on the back of their hat. Honestly, the thought of that would make me run fast. Good luck and have fun.
I ran the America’s River 50 mile in Sacramento, it’s the only ultra I’ve done and it was beautiful . . . but the trails and the distance definitely made me go at a slower pace. Good luck with your run!

Wow! What an awesome challenge. I did a 10k trail race an was amazed at how much harder it was (although it was also in a lot of snow!) You’ll do amazing, I’m sure!

I have done a trail half and it was fun, but I did not set any time goals.

So excited for you! I love trail running and I will always opt for a trail any time I’m given a choice.
Trails are tough but I’m sure you will rock this race!

One thing I like about trails is running through the trees. I have to be careful about keeping my eyes open for course directions, though!
