Goals? What’s next?

GOALS

GOALS

Hello there!

It’s been awhile since I have written. Life has been throwing some curveballs my way so I have needed to take a bit of a break from the blogging world. I have also been feeling a little lost lately in terms of goals for myself with running, triathlon, and other racing. My last big goal race that I trained for with a coach was the Boston Marathon in 2017 which seems like ages ago. Since then I have done a few races including the CHAD Hero Half Marathon, a tiny 5K, and the Ascutney and Loon Mountain races but I didn’t follow specific training plans for any of these races. It has been nice to take a break from regimented training but now I am chomping at the bit to train for something big and perhaps to working with a coach again.

I NEED a BIG goal in my life!

Here are some ideas I am tossing around:

  • Half Ironman or Olympic Distance Triathlons-Work with a coach and start racing next summer
  • Jump back into marathons?
  • 25K Mountain Race

One exciting adventure that I do have coming up is the Ragnar Los Coyotes Trail Race in Warner Springs, California on November 9-10 with Sweat Pink. I am thrilled to have been picked for this fun trail racing adventure. I will be running with these other awesome runners:

I have done many relay races before including Reach the Beach New Hampshire but this will be my first trail Ragnar. The course is series of three rugged double track trails that all lead back to the Ragnar Village where we will have a campsite set up. The total mileage for each runner is 14.20 miles. Each of the three trails varies in difficulty, easy, intermediate, and hard.

I can’t wait to hit the trails in a part of the world that I have never been to before.

What do you think should be my next goal? What big goals and fun adventures do you have coming up?

  1. It’s so hard to come up with a new goal. I think the key is to find something that will push you outside of your comfort zone, but not too much, and something that you will enjoy.

So cool that you are doing a Ragnar race with all of those awesome ladies!

  2. I know how you feel about wondering where to go next. After I completed my marathon this year I’ve been wondering the same thing!

Congrats on the Ragnar Trail – it looks like such an incredible time and I definitely want to add a Ragnar Trail to my race bucket list! I’m sure it’ll provide some inspiration as you decide on your next goal!

  3. Wow, you do have some good options for some big goals! I just did my first (sprint) triathlon yesterday, so I was able to check that off my list. I am running the Berlin marathon next month and then Chicago in October, so that is it for me for this year! I did a Ragnar in November. You will love it!

  4. The Ragnar Trail race should be a lot of fun! You’ve got some good options for your next goal – is there a marathon on your “wish list”? Which of these goals do you think will most motivate you to get out the door every day for your training – that’s usually the question I ask myself when I’m trying to decide.

  5. your Ragnar race is going to be a blast! We are doing Napa Ragnar a week before you. Maybe see how you like the trail running to decide if that should be your big goal?

  6. It’s hard to pick a goal. Kind of depends on what your “ultimate” goal is. A new marathon PR? A new triathlon distance? So many options, which is I guess why it’s hard to pick.

I can’t wait until our Ragnar Trail race! I admit I’m a little nervous because this will be my first trail relay (and because I don’t want to let down all my awesome teammates!

  7. The Ragnar Trail sounds so fun! I’ve done a few relays (similar to Ragnar, but on a smaller scale), but never a trail relay. Have you ever done an ultra?

  8. Ragnar trails are so fun! You are going to absolutely love it and what an honor to be selected for that team! It’s going to be great!

  9. You are going to have so much fun doing that Ragnar event, especially with that group. I’m ready for a fresh fall race myself. Hmmm
