Goals for 2014
As I begin to look at the New Year I am amazed at how quickly last year seems to have gone by. It’s definitely true that having kids seems to speed up time. Setting goals for the year ahead will help me keep a positive focus on all of the good that is around me and will help me to keep moving forward.
If you are a regular reader you already know that this year has been filled with ups and downs for me since I ran the 2013 Boston Marathon. That day was a game changer for me and sent me into a complete tailspin. Thankfully with the great support of my family, friends, and a wonderful counselor I am finally feeling back on a more positive and balanced footing in life. I was not physically harmed at the Boston Marathon but am still trying to discover the how to use the emotional impact that I suffered that day to bring good to others around me. This year I will be setting big goals and little goals to keep me on a positive path and filled with happiness.
My Goals for 2014 (This is of course always subject to the addition of new goals!)
- Train for the Boston Marathon.
- Finish the Boston Marathon (even though this may be one of the most emotionally tough moments of my life).
- Achieve a marathon PR (I would love to break 3:30. This may be unrealistic at the Boston Marathon since I am currently unsure of what this day will look like for me.)
- Achieve a Half Marathon PR (My PR is currently 1:37).
- Race in my first triathlon (I am not sure what distance yet or which race but probably a Sprint).
- Race in my first Nordic Skiing Race.
- Race 14 Races in 2014
- Get back into practicing yoga.
- Get to bed earlier every night
- Drink more water
- Add early morning runs into my training schedule.
- Become a Road Runners Club of America Certified Running Coach.
- Implement my health coaching business into my blog with a focus on working with athletes.
- Spend more time cross training in order to avoid another injury.
- Strength Train twice a week, this will include core specific workouts.
- Spend more time playing outside with my kids.
- Spend more time creating (crafting) with my kids.
- Run a race with my kids for the first time (only if they want to!).
- Choose a new activity to do that will take me outside of my comfort zone (last year it was climbing).
- Explore new roads and trails to create new adventures.
- Create a community of motivated and inspired runners through my blog to share challenges, inspirations, and adventures!
- NUMBER 1 Goal is to find something positive about every day. I want to focus on all of the good that is around me and find peace and happiness with everything that I have. As I have seen others do I am contemplating starting a gratitude journal or gratitude jar . . . I’ll explain more later but it would be something such as this:
