Brooks Adrenaline ASR 10
The snow has finally melted from most of the trails. This makes me so happy especially because (knock on wood) I am not injured this year and can run on the trails without feeling flashes of shooting pain or feeling like my ankle will collapse at any moment. HOORAY! In celebration I picked up a new pair of the Brooks Adrenaline ASR 10 Trail Shoe (and so did Organic Runner Dad too! I’m still in somewhat of disbelief that he is still running!). This shoe is the counterpart to my beloved Brooks Adrenaline GTS. This shoe offers great stability and water resistance (there is a GORE-TEX version too). I love the new bright colors for better visibility on trail. The only downside for me is that like pretty much all trail shoes they do not come in a narrow size . . . if you know of a trail shoe that comes in a narrow please let me know! This is a fantastic trail shoe that I would highly recommend. #RUNHAPPY
Lentil-Walnut Burgers from Mollie Katzen’s Moosewood Cookbook
I have been on the quest for a delicious lentil burger recipe for months. One of our local bakery cafés, the Three French Sisters in Littleton, NH has an amazing lentil burger but the recipe is a secret. All I know is that it is something that I crave and something that I have not been able to replicate. However, in my quest to track down the perfect recipe my friend Joanna introduced me to Mollie Katzen’s amazing Lentil-Walnut Burger (Recipe Here) from her James Beard award winning cookbook The New Moosewood Cookbook. Although this recipe is different than the one I’d been craving this lentil burger is loaded with flavors of mushrooms, walnuts, dry mustard and garlic. I made the Lentil-Walnut Burgers for dinner this week and they were a total hit and the perfect vegetarian option for our weeks menu.
Pine Cone Bird Feeders
The sun is out, the daffodils are peeking out of the ground with their yellow sunny blooms, and the songbirds are singing! The Organic Runner Kids have been having a blast adventuring outside searching for caterpillars, riding bikes, and birdwatching. This week when we were feeding the
pigs birds and birdseed was scattered all over our patio the inner first grade teacher in me was moved to create the simple but awesomely fun pine cone bird feeder. This is something that my kids had never done before and we have giant baskets filled with pine cones just calling out to be made into bird feeders. I grabbed a jar of sunflower butter, some spoons, and some tinfoil and our patio quickly turned into creation station. The kids loved covering the pine cones in gobs of sticky sunflower butter and rolling them in seeds. When we finished we hung them out in our pussy willow tree and waited with miniature binoculars for the birds to discover the feast. The smiles and delight that followed was just perfect!
This is definitely one of the hardest tasks in life. I am on a life long quest for amazing inner-strength and the belief that I can do anything. I am a perfectionist working hard to believe that I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to and that even if mistakes are made along the way, it’s ok!
