Running friends who inspire!
Last weekend at the Mt. Washington Road Race I made a new amazing running friend. Rosanne has been reading my blog for awhile and contacted me prior to the race and asked me if I would like to ride back down the mountain after the race with her. I said yes and on race number pick-up day met Rosanne and felt immediate camaraderie with her. This was her first Mt. Washington Road Race too and you could just feel her fresh energy and enthusiasm for the new experience. She tackled that mountain with power and determination and proved something to herself by reaching the top in a time of 1:54 crushing her goal time of 2 hours and finishing steps behind me. I loved watching her completely surprise herself by running faster than she thought she could.
Rosanne is new to the world of marathoning, having completed only one. After watching her conquer Mount Washington I know she is going to crush her marathon P.R. on the next time out and I will be so excited for her. It was so fantastic spending the day with her (and her awesome support crew). Running and talking with Rosanne has given me new motivation and drive and of course now we both want to return to Mount Washington next year to crush our finish times next year!

Have I mentioned that I loved flowers (if not, take a look a my instagram to see my amazing garden blooms). I always love finding new things to eat when I am at the grocery store. It is especially fun to discover something new when you have your kids along. Yesterday we found this Dragonfruit (Pitaya) during our weekly shopping trip. The kids especially liked the name and imagined that it is a dragons favorite fruit. We have yet to cut ours open however will be trying it later on tonight. From what I’ve read and seen, the inside of the dragonfruit resembles that of a white kiwi. In order to eat it you slice it open and scoop out the insides. Dragonfruit can be cut into cubes and then served in its skin which makes a cool little bowl. Dragonfruit is also another great addition to a fruit salad. We can’t wait to eat ours.

Sadly, I did myself in when I ran the Mt. Washington road race and turned a minor cold into a nasty upper respiratory infection. I have been down for the count this week with my total mileage adding up to a big ZERO and several days in bed! I am bummed because unfortunately I am going to have to put my dream of becoming a triathlete on hold for now. The race on Sunday isn’t going to happen as I am still coughing and have a sore throat. Although I am disappointed I am looking on the bright side and have chosen instead to do the LOBSTERMAN triathlon (complete with post-race lobster dinner) in the beginning of September. he great news with this plan is that I can continue to rest a bit longer and then get in better triathlon training over the next two months (hopefully to include open water swimming) and be ready to kick some a$$ on race day with the rest of The Sustainable Athletes!
