Fresh Five. Feeling Inspired! Five Good Things.

This week has passed in a blur but that’s a good thing because it means we’ve been busy! We are still waiting for the big thaw in New Hampshire but the temperature just wants to keep hanging out in the teens in the morning. Oh well, I guess the best strategy is to make the best of it and to get out and enjoy the fresh air with some fresh adventures and to try out some new things.
Organic Runner Mom’s Fresh Five
So without further ado here are my fresh five picks for healthy living, endurance sports, and fun this week:
If you haven’t ever ventured out onto the trails and tried trail running I would highly recommend it. Due to my back troubles I had had an extended hiatus from trail running (5 months to be exact eek!). This week my back was feeling good so when my friend Joanna asked me to join her on one of my favorite trails I couldn’t contain my excitement. Even though the trail was icy, a fresh layer of snow (yes I said snow, and it’s April!) gave the trail a nice surface underfoot that wasn’t slick.
Thankfully I had one of my favorite pairs of Hoka One One’s in the car so I was ready to go! It felt so good to get out and run on the trail, the serene peace in the woods and a good friend to talk with as we ran was “food” for my soul. The trail we ran on is called Bridal Veil Falls in Franconia, New Hampshire. The whole run is about 4.5 miles out and back and has the sweet reward of an amazing waterfall at the top of the trail. We had a fantastic trail run and I found the sweet endorphin kick and energy burst from running outside when I was done! Thank you Joanna for taking me back out on the trail!
2. #RockYourCore Challenge
The Rock Your Core Challenge is exactly that, a way to get you working on your core to give you those abs of steel you’ve been dreaming of. But in all seriousness, your core is an essential part of success in endurance sports. Core work is sometimes overlooked when training for long distance races. It is important to work your core muscles to provide your body with proper support, to prevent injury and lessen fatigue during endurance sports. A strong core is necessary for strong posture which is critical for strength and speed (more to come on this soon in a post next week.).

This challenge is being hosted by Jill Conyers and many other awesome health and fitness bloggers. To find out more about how you can #RockYourCore click on the image above to find a calendar of daily challenges and also to check out the awesome prizes.
3. Stonyfield Organic Oh My Yog!
Oh My Yog! and Yes Please! Oh My Yog! is the latest yogurt creation to come from New Hampshire company Stonyfield Organic. This “Tri-Layer” Yogurt is perfect fro breakfast, lunch or even as a dessert. Whole Milk Yogurt, Fruit on the bottom and a layer of cream on the top makes this yogurt simply delicious. Oh My Yog! comes in 6 different flavors: Apple Cinnamon, Gingered Pear, Madagascar Vanilla Bean, Orange Cranberry, Pacific Coast Strawberry, and Wild Quebec Blueberry. My favorite is definitely the Gingered Pear with the Apple Cinnamon being a close second. This yogurt is absolutely decadent and you can feel great about eating it because it is Organic.
*Disclaimer: I received this product for review from Stonyfield Organic as a part of my involvement with the Stonyfield YoGetter Program. All opinions expressed here are my own.
4. Tunes to keep you grooving during your workout–
On this weeks playlist I’m going with Sugar by Maroon Five and Bright by Echosmith. Lately I’m loving everything light and poppy, music that is upbeat. What is on your playlist this week?

I’m so lucky that I live just a half mile from some of the best trails in the desert. We even have a trail that has a 4,000 foot elevation climb and ends up in the Santa Rosa mountains.

I love trail running but prefer it when there is no snow on the ground. I got a new hydration pack last yr that I haven’t even used yet. Excited to test it out this spring
Trail run sounds wonderful to me. Can not believe how much snow you have… I am originally from Maine, so I know how much you can get but this is April already ! Stoneyfield yogurt has not come to France yet.. maybe one day ! Happy Easter weekend.

My heart was singing because my daughter got engaged this week to an awesome guy and I only have 17 days until I run the Boston Marathon with my sister. Life is good!

Wow–thanks for the nice shout out!
Those snow shots/frozen falls shots are incredible. It’s hard for me to wrap my brain around that much snow on the ground still. So glad you got back on the trails, though. I just returned to mine a couple weeks ago when things finally thawed out back there. I need them weekly, bottom line!

Great list. Trail running is on my list of things I really want to try more of. Always loved hiking growing up (Boy Scouts) and now that I love running, might as well combine the two.
I think I’ll have to add that to my playlist. Catchy.

I’m loving Style by Lynsee and Pumps and Iron. I must get a sneak peek in on those at least once a week. Very good blogs. I have yet to master the trail run. It just doesn’t work out for me. I am scared of twisting an ankle.

I need to know which Hokas you like for that kind of icy snow running. I am loving my Huakas. Also, my daughter is in LOVE with the Sugar song. She is only 5 so it is a little disturbing!
