It’s almost Cinco de Mayo which means picnic season is here. What better thing to enjoy at a spring picnic than a festive fruit salad with a bright yogurt dressing or fruit dip. Fresh fruit is finally coming back into season and before we know it we will be picking fresh strawberries and blueberries to our hearts content.
Fresh fruit (or frozen is good too) is an important part of your daily diet because it provides your body with nutrients such as fiber, vitamin C and potassium that your body needs. The nutrients in fruit can benefit your body in helping to prevent cancers, heart disease and stroke. Many fruits also have high levels of anti-oxidants which can benefit you in ways such as better eye health, health skin and immune system protection.
A standard fruit salad is great for your every day picnic but for Cinco de Mayo you can add a little flair with some cinnamon, lime and honey to add bright and bold fruit flavors. Many fruit salads are also served with a sour cream dressing (or dip) which can be a bit heavy. Why not lighten it up by using Stonyfield Greek Yogurt instead? 1 cup of sour cream is equal to 1 c2up of Stonyfield Organic Greek Yogurt so makes a fantastic substitution for a fruit salad dressing.
Recipe: Cinco De Mayo Cinnamon Fruit Salad with Yogurt Honey Lime Dressing
Ingredients:
Fruit Salad
- 1 organic banana sliced and quartered
- 1 cup of organic strawberries, sliced thinly
- 1 cup of organic apples cut into cubes with skins on for color
- 1 cup of organic mangoes cut into cubes
- organic cinnamon
Dressing
- 1/2 cup Stonyfield Organic Greek Yogurt
- the juice of one whole organic lime
- 1/2 tablespoon of honey (more if you like it sweeter)
Prepare the fruit and add cinnamon. Toss the fruit salad. Mix up the ingredients for the dressing (dipping sauce) and serve along side your festive Cinco de Mayo Fruit Salad.
Enjoy!
What is your favorite way to serve salad. What you you use yogurt as a substitute for as a way to lighten up a dish?

Sounds like a yummy recipe, I’ll have to try it!
I love making cucumber sauces with yogurt to put on veggie burgers, falafel, fish, or as a veggie dip. Just mix yogurt, lemon juice, a little olive oil, grated cucumber, and a ton of garlic. Yum!

I’ve never used a dressing for fruit salad before. The taste of plain Greek yogurt isn’t to my liking but maybe honey is the key.
i usually use a spicemix called ‘chaat masala’ usually found in indian grocery stores. it is a lovely sweet/spicy/tangy mixture of different spices.
i have used yogurt in some baked foods and makes a nice, tender muffins.
