Today the trails welcomed me back and so did my best running friends. It’s been months since we ran together since my back prevented me from doing much running. The nasty endless winter has also kept us all inside until we all think we might go crazy. It’s not warm yet here in New Hampshire and feels more like the start of winter with light snow covering the trails and crisp air brushing against you as you run but finally I am able to adventure on the trails. Two of my best running friends and I met up this afternoon for a trail run. We had no pace goals for the run with the only goal to have fun, to enjoy the woods and the social nature of group running. It was perfect.
Oh how I have missed it! Being back on the trails has made me eager to run as much as possible and to explore. I am feeling new confidence in my body as I have been working hard all winter to strengthen my lower core for better stability. I have been working hard to maximize my muscle strength when I run focusing hard on every stride to maintain stronger form. I am working on “firing my glutes” and using my hamstrings, muscle groups that I had been ignoring with lazy strides. I am being smart about running and not jumping back in too quickly. I have been tempted to go out and race seeing all of the incredible spring race results and recaps but I am trying to control this desire so that I can be strong for the races that I really want to do well at.
I am thankful for the gift of being able to get out and to do what I love in a gorgeous place that I absolutely adore.
Today it was 5 miles and here’s to many more.
How many miles for you this weekend? What was the favorite part about your run or race?
