Focus on The Whole You with prAna and Stonyfield #TheWholeYou
Disclosure: I created this post in partnership with Stonyfield as a #StonyfieldBlogger. For this post I received clothing from prAna for their #WholeYou Campaign as well as Stonyfield Greek Yogurt. All opinions and thoughts expressed here are my own.
Life can be so full of worry if you allow it. It is also very easy to create so much busy in your life that there is no time to slow down and think about the whole you. I tend to have a hard time saying no to things. I feel a greater sense of accomplishment when I load myself up with responsibility and activities in addition to my role as a mom, blogger and endurance athlete. While this may seem productive it often isn’t and what I miss in this busyness is the self-care piece. I think this is common in today’s world because alongside self-pressure to be successful there is also a lot of external pressure from the world around us to be the best at everything.
Steps for Self-Care and focusing on #TheWholeYou
So instead of creating more busy let’s think more about how to take care of “The Whole You” with these simple steps.
Wholesome foods will nourish you.
When life is busy it is still so important to nourish your body with nutritious foods. Add more organic food into your every day snacks and meals to lessen the amount pesticides, antibiotics and processed ingredients in your diet. This can include foods like Stonyfield Organic Whole Milk Greek Yogurt. Stonyfield Organic Whole Milk Greek Yogurt is USDA Organic certified, Non GMO, Gluten free, and the milk comes from pasture raised cows. Greek yogurt is perfect for adding into smoothies, perfect paired with granola and even works made into a great veggie dip. When life gets busy taking time to create your recipe plan for the week to ensure that good food will be on the table and filling your kids lunchbox everyday is essential too.
Relax your mind.
Adding in a daily meditation for 10 minutes a day is a great practice for centering yourself. It is a great way to gain focus and clarity and plan out your day. Even if you have kids running around they can join you in this daily practice and learn to add in more mindfulness and stillness. A great place to take time to meditate is by the water. We spend many of our warmer days near the water since we live right along the Connecticut River. The relaxing sounds of the water washing on the shore creates an ideal backdrop for meditation. Moving meditation through exercise is also a way that I find more center and balance in my life. Being a triathlete my time in the water allows for me to find a meditative state when I am swimming. Another place for moving meditation is on the water Stand Up Paddleboarding where the repeated strokes create a rhythmic sound that relaxes.
prAna’s sustainably made swimwear pairs perfectly with meditation in a relaxing outdoor environment. Knowing that what I choose to wear was made through responsible manufacturing is just as important as what I choose to eat. prAna has partnered with bluesign® systems so you know that their fabrics meet the highest environmental and human safety standards. Their swimwear and clothing are also FairTrade Certified ensuring that workes are treated fairly and work in safe conditions. prAna’s. prAna has many swimsuits to choose from that mimic the styles made for wear during yoga and for a relaxed comfortable lifestyle. The prAna Dreaming Swim Top (paired with the Dreaming Swim Bottom) is made with a bralette to provide support as well as a webbed back strap similar to some of their yoga tops.
Feed Your Creativity.
We we get too busy we lose the time for my creative outlets. Make time! Focusing on the whole you means taking time to add a little creativity back in to your life and this can take many forms. Creativity can enter your life in the kitchen when making a new recipe and finding ways to incorporate vegetables your organic garden or CSA into our meals. Another way is to include your kids in your culinary adventures.
Writing not just for work or blogging but for enjoyment can bring relaxation and open your mind. Writing a journal can include brainstorming, writing stories, or making lists. Taking time to do crafts and painting with your kids will engage your right brain and helps to put a more positive spin on the day. Singing and music also help to find that happiness. It doesn’t even need to be organized singing or music lessons, belting it out in the car will do and can be a good release.
