Happiness is . . . Reading stories with your kids
There is nothing better than snuggling up with your kids and some great books to give you feelings of warmth and happiness. Being a former first grade teacher, my collection of children’s picture books is huge. I have to admit I have an addiction to children’s literature. I love everything about kids books-the illustrations, the humor, the characters . . . We began reading to my daughter the day we brought her home from the hospital and haven’t stopped since. Her little brother (age 2) is already in love with reading too and begs to read more every night. It is hard to say no to their little sweet voices and smiling faces, “Please just one more book Mommy?” Having read the books in our home library many many times my little “sponges” now love our trips to the library to choose new stories to fuel their imaginations. Right now the favorite book themes at our house are princesses, horses, trucks, and trains and yes (my 2 year old son is way into the princess stories or as he calls them “PrinPesses.”
What children’s books do you love reading with your kids at night?
Some of the books that my kids can’t get enough of right now are . . .
Timothy and the Strong Pajamas, Viviane Schwarz
Princess Peepers, Pam Calvert
I’m Dirty, Kate McMullan
A Friend For Einstein, the Smallest Stallion, Charlie Cantrell
Boston Marathon Training Updates
Oh and just in case you were stopping by for some running news, did you know that December 31st marks 16 Weeks until the Boston Marathon!!!! I can’t wait to “officially” start my training. I’ve actually been doing a ton of training all along with my excellent coach Denise Goode from The Sustainable Athlete.
This fall I have been working on maintaining my base and have added in a strength training regimen in addition to core workouts. During my official training I am also looking forward to be participating in the awesome Winter Wild Race series put on by Team Amp and Acidotic Racing.
I have also signed up for the “Boston Prep 16 Miler” in Derry, NH at the end of January . . . Brrrrrrrrrr and my oh my does this course look hilly! It’s a good thing I train in the land of hills and mountains.
Do you have any races planned for the winter? Will you be training for the Boston Marathon or any other amazing race adventures? I’d love to hear all about it!
