It’s time for Friday Five! And today I’m talking all about the people who motivate me? It is so hard to narrow it down to just five especially after being around so many inspirational women last weekend at the Rise. Run. Retreat.  But that gives me the perfect segue so without further ado . . .

Five Awesome People Who Motivate Me (ok it may be more than 5)!

1. The incredible healthy living blogging community.

Through blogging I have “met” so many incredible people who share their stories of how they stay motivated to reach their goals. They are people who are looking to lift others up and to challenge others to reach higher and to dream bigger. The running bloggers that I met this past weekend are a perfect example of strong, driven women who motivate me. 2. My energetic kids!

My kids are constantly on the move. I just love the energy that kids have (I sometimes miss my days as a first grade teacher). We spend a ton of time outdoors and are lucky because we live in an amazing (but rural) area of Nw Hampshire where the great outdoors provides us with a giant playground. My kids motivate me to be healthy and active and my husband and I love sharing our passion for the outdoors with them every chance we get.  We are lucky to be close to the mountains and many lakes and rivers so there is ample opportunity to play every day! 3. My coach Denise Goode from The Sustainable Athlete.

Denise is just awesome. She is an accomplished athlete, a coach, holds degrees in Nutrition and Nursing, and she recently achieved a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology. Denise writes a killer training plan and will tweak it as needed  to help you on your path to your goals. My only beef with Denise is that she is in Maine and not New Hampshire along with much of Team Sustainable Athlete so I miss out on all of the crazy group rides, swims and indoor torture training sessions.

4. My husband. The egg man. Jesse.

Always my number one cheerleader, Jesse is the reason I am able to train as hard as I do. We trade off workout times on the weekend sharing kid responsibilities when one of us is training. Jesse is motivated to stay healthy squeezing in running, lifting and strength training when he can during his busy travel and work schedule. He loves to take the kids on outdoor adventures and encourages them to explore. I am motivated by his drive to succeed in our family business as well as the way that he challenges himself. He is also someone who has big dreams and once a goal has been set he does whatever he can to reach that goal.

5. My friend, Half Ironman Olivia

This summer my friend Olivia and I set out to train for the Timberman Ironman 70.3. Sadly due to busy schedules with kids and distance we did not train together but only shared tips and our nerves about the race. However we were both able to be on the starting line on the hottest day of the summer in Gilford, NH. Olivia was a competitive swimmer and cyclist as well as competing in triathlons prior to having kids but hadn’t competed in a triathlon since having her two adorable kids. We decided to go for it and signed up for the race last winter. For me it was my first and for both of us the race seemed daunting while tying to squeeze in all of the training. Olivia and our families got to spend the race weekend together where I truly got to see the fire she had for racing. Olivia was “hungry” to go after her goals on race day. She filled me with positive encouragement before the race and modeled true calm when I saw her before her swim wave. Not only did she race but she was a speedy and  after the race was already encouraging me to join her for another race. Now we are planning our next Ironman 70.3 adventures and I am excited to get down to business and to challenge her and be challenged by her in some actual training this year.

  1. I AM OBSESSED with the blogging community! If I don’t visit at least 5 – 10 blogs a day (and I typically visit more than that) I feel WEIRD and like something is missing! Next week I am going away, for a vacation?? – ha, I don’t even know what that is, and I am sad that I am not going to be able to read and become inspired by my fellow bloggers!!

    1. Ohh Angela! You are too sweet! I only wish we had had more time to hang out. We definitely need to make it to point to meet up throughout the year, either for dinner or running or anything fun! I would highly recommend a coach as having a coach has truly helped me to reach my goals. You would love it!
