Disclosure: I received Vega Sport Energy Bars in exchange for my honest review as part of the Fuel Your Better campaign by Vega Sport and Fit Approach. All opinions are my own.

It’s time to #FuelYourBetter with Vega Sport Energy Bars.  Recently I was offered the chance to try Vega Sport energy bars a purely whole foods plant based energy bar. Being like most endurance athletes I am constantly on the quest to find the perfect nutrition to fuel me on my long runs and now training rides and swims for my first triathlon.

Brendan Brazier, a professional Ironman, developed the Vega Sport products after frustration with traditional fueling options during training and on race days.  His quest to develop a plant based nutritional shake led to the creation of the Vega Sport line of nutritional products for athlete.  Vega Sport Energy Bars are part of the complete plant-based sport performance system: prepare, sustain, and recover.  The Vega Sport energy bars are meant to help you to sustain your maximum energy level and performance level during exercise.  The energy bars come in two flavors Chocolate Coconut Almond (which I was sent to try) and Apple Cherry.

Here is a quick look at what makes up Vega Sport Energy Bars (Source):

  • 27 grams of carbs from whole food ingredients including organic dates, almond flour, dark chocolate chips, dried coconut to name a few.
  • high and low glycemic carbohydrates for immediate and sustained energy.
  • 1 g Omega-3

The Vega Sport Energy Bars are awesome to throw into my UltrAspire hydration pack when I head out for my long training runs and hill workouts.  It is recommended that you consumer one bar very 45 minutes of strenuous exercise.  This is key so as not to go down the dangerous road into BONK-ville (a place that I’ve been before and its the worst).  I do find that I have trouble stomaching an entire bar at one time while I exercise.  In order to solve this problem I cut my bars into four smaller pieces before I head out onto the trail and start my refueling starting at about 35-45 minutes in and then I eat it as needed. These energy bars have a heavenly flavor, I mean what could be better than chocolate and coconut?

Now that you’ve heard what I think its time for me to get out there and hit the hills for another grueling amazing hill training run. How will you #FuelYourBetter today?  Try VegaSport! I’d love to hear what you think!
